Rug Size Guide
The right size makes a room feel finished. Here is how our size groups work, and what fits where.
Our size groups

| Large | 6x9, 7x10 | 6 to 7 ft | Living rooms, dining tables for four |
| Room Size | 8x10, 8x11, 9x12 | 8 to 9 ft | Full seating areas, dining for six to eight |
| Palace & Oversize | 10x14, 12x15 and up | 10 ft or more | Great rooms, large dining rooms, open plans |

Living room
- Best: all furniture legs sit on the rug.
- Good: the front legs of every sofa and chair sit on the rug.
- Leave 12 to 18 inches of bare floor between the rug and the walls.
- Most living rooms take an 8x10 or 9x12.
Dining room
- The rug should extend about 24 inches past the table on every side, so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out.
- A table for four usually needs at least 6x9; for six, 8x10; for eight, 9x12 or larger.
- Round tables look best on round or square rugs.
Bedroom
- Queen bed: 6x9 or 8x10 under the lower two-thirds of the bed.
- King bed: 9x12, or two runners along the sides.
- Or use a small rug or runner on each side of the bed.
Hallways and runners
Leave 4 to 6 inches of floor on each side and at both ends. For long halls, a runner a few feet shorter than the hall looks better than one that touches both ends.
Quick tip
Mark the size on your floor with painter’s tape before you buy. Every product page also shows the rug to scale next to a 7 ft sofa, and the exact size in feet and centimeters.
