Wool moths, carpet beetles, crickets, and silverfish can all cause extensive damage to your oriental rugs. Typically they will impact areas that are dark and out of sight, so check your rugs under couches and furniture for signs of insects, eggs, or larvae. If you see any signs of infestation or want to prevent future damage, call us for rug mothproofing. We treat rugs with a mix of chemicals that renders the wool inedible to wool moth larvae and typically deters other insects as well. The chemical we use for moth-proofing is not an insecticide, and it’s not poisonous. It is designed for natural dyed oriental rugs and will last until the next rug cleaning. Pair your rug cleaning services with moth-proofing from Fred Remmers.

Color-Run Removal

Trust our expertise and experience- We Fix Color Run for the RUG Industry Insiders and Collectors! From Orientals to antique silks and very intricate Persian rugs, We know the origin, wool or silk type, dye and age of each rug in such great detail. Every rug takes a special and unique process to remove the color run. Too often we receive beautiful rugs for a routine wash and we find it covered with acrylic or similar paint as a mean to mask and fix color run or a stain! An unfortunate discovery that unveils when we wash the rug and residues of dried-up paint separates only to expose the original problem. Sadly, in some cases the chemicals from the paint has already damaged the fibers; caused structural damages and rug requires major repair! A blasphemy!

Rug Storage

When a rug is to be stored for more than a few months it should be cleaned, sprayed with insecticide, and wrapped in protective plastic or a tough synthetic paper like “Tyvek”® building paper. Don’t use newspaper or common brown wrapping paper. These materials are not chemically stable (they are usually quite acidic), and do not provide the protection from insects or moisture the stored rug needs. Make sure the rug is completely dry. Think twice about using moth balls or flakes–these materials have little repellent effect, and the odor they impart to the rug can be difficult to remove. Cedar scent is useless in moth control. Store the rug in a clean, dry place out of the reach of squirrels or other rodents. Periodic inspection of the rug is strongly recommended.

Pet Stain Removal

We have the knowledge and technique to properly release the pet urine from your area rugs. The guarantee to our process is when you receive your rug and you smell, see the pet odor is gone and there is no perfume to mask it. Visit our Website testimonial section and read about pet odor problems! The most important steps in protecting your rug and the health of your household when a pet mishap happens are to:

Immediately contact us so we can guide you to minimize the damage and schedule a pick-up. Remember the longer you wait the more chances for the pet stain to set and cause permanent color damage. If the urine remains in the wool, it can cause color run, burn/decompose and destroy the rug and require expensive repair. Here at Fred Remmers, we know rugs, and we specialize in rug cleaning and repair.
